How Do We Build More Fulfilling Relationships? A Conversation with Relationship Coach Wendy Rovers

Podcast promo with two women portraits and text: Healing Through Conversations, with Loveli Brown and guest Wendy Rovers.

Sometimes the answers we need aren't found in another book, another social media post, or another person's opinion.

Sometimes they're found in the quiet.

During this week's episode of Healing Through Conversations, I sat down with relationship transition coach Wendy Rovers for one of the most meaningful conversations we've had this season. We explored what it really means to heal after divorce, rebuild your identity, and create fulfilling relationships—not only with others, but with yourself.

One story Wendy shared stayed with me long after we stopped recording.

The Walk That Changed Everything

Twenty-five years ago, Wendy found herself standing at one of life's biggest crossroads.

Her marriage was ending.

She packed a notepad and pen, drove to a quiet cottage, and planned to make a list of pros and cons—the way she'd always made difficult decisions.

But when she reached the water, something unexpected happened.

She never wrote a single word.

Instead, she sat in silence.

For the first time in years, she stopped trying to figure everything out and simply listened to herself.

That moment became the foundation for the work she does today, helping people navigate divorce, separation, identity shifts, and life's biggest transitions. She discovered that clarity doesn't always come from thinking harder. Sometimes it comes from slowing down enough to hear your own wisdom.

We Haven't Lost Ourselves

One of the most powerful ideas Wendy shared is that we haven't lost our wisdom.

We've simply lost access to it.

Life gets loud.

Between work, parenting, relationships, responsibilities, and constant notifications, we rarely give ourselves permission to simply be still.

When we slow down, something remarkable happens.

We begin hearing our own voice again instead of everyone else's. Wendy believes every person already has the answers they're searching for—they simply need space to reconnect with themselves.

The Question That Changes Everything

Rather than asking,

"Why is this happening to me?"

Wendy encourages a different question:

Who do I want to be during this season?

That simple shift changes everything.

Instead of focusing on what has been lost, we begin imagining what can still be created.

Instead of living from fear, we begin living from intention.

Instead of surviving our circumstances, we begin designing our future.

Healing Is More Than Moving On

Healing isn't pretending you're okay.

Healing isn't rushing through grief.

Healing isn't avoiding difficult emotions.

Healing is allowing yourself to experience every stage honestly while remembering that your story isn't over.

One of my favorite parts of our conversation centered around grief.

Divorce doesn't come with bereavement leave.

Heartbreak doesn't pause your responsibilities.

Most women continue working, parenting, caregiving, and showing up for everyone else while quietly carrying enormous emotional weight.

Sometimes healing looks like tears.

Sometimes it looks like therapy.

Sometimes it's reconnecting with old friends.

Sometimes it's simply giving yourself permission to begin again.

Love Is Still the Answer

When I asked Wendy what motherhood taught her that she now carries into business, she answered immediately:

Unconditional love.

She believes we don't need separate versions of ourselves for work, family, friendships, or relationships.

We are one person.

One heart.

One life.

One question she asks herself often is:

"What would love do?"

Imagine how different our relationships would become if we approached conflict from that perspective instead of defensiveness.

Imagine how differently we might treat ourselves.

Healing Happens in Community

Another beautiful reminder from our conversation was that healing doesn't always happen in isolation.

Sometimes all we need is one or two people who genuinely see us.

People who remind us who we are when we've forgotten.

People who allow us to be honest without judgment.

Healing Through Conversations was built on that very belief—that honest conversations create space for healing, hope, and growth.

My Biggest Takeaway

The message I continue coming back to is simple.

Life doesn't always unfold the way we planned.

Relationships change.

Dreams evolve.

People leave.

New opportunities arrive.

But every ending invites us to ask:

Who do I want to become now?

That question carries hope.

That question creates possibility.

And sometimes, that question changes everything.
